Shanghai Theatre Academy presents a Chinese Opera and Folk Music Show

Heriot-Watt University and the Scottish Confucius Institute for Business and Communication (SCIBC) are delighted to welcome the Shanghai Theatre Academy to the University for a dazzling performance on the evening of Saturday 26 September at 18.00hrs.

The evening will be a fabulous showcase of traditional Chinese dance, music and opera, encapsulating Beijing Opera, Kungqu Opera and Folk Music, all of which are an important part of Chinese traditional culture.

Highlights will include Beijing Opera, “Celestial Maid Scattering Flowers” which features a solo dance using silk ribbons; Kunqu Opera, “Borrowing Fan”, a virtual performance featuring acrobatics accompanied by gong and drum and Pipa Solo, “Xiang Yu, the Conqueror, Unloaded the Armor” using a four stringed Chinese lute.


This memorable event is free but guests must register to attend by Friday 25 September as it will no doubt be very popular. It will be held in James Watt Centre I at the Edinburgh Campus of Heriot-Watt University and the doors will open at 17.45hrs.


Car parking will be in visitor car park A and B.
